When I was first introduced to the Fediverse, I was so annoyed that I had to create my account on each Fediverse service.

However after spending some months, I can recommend some ways one can consume content from multiple instances and platforms along with minimal number of accounts.

Method 1 : One Firefish account

Firefish, in my opinion, is the best fediverse has to offer, it tries to implement features from all fediverse social media platforms.

Choose an instance from https://joinfirefish.org/join/ and click on sign up ! This article is not a comparison of Firefish to any other platform, read this article for Firefish pros and cons.

Most instances of firefish are federated with multiple Mastodon, Misskey and Pleroma instances, as a result it is possible to see and interact with post from them too !

You can post on Lemmy too ! Yeah, no kidding; to do that I recommend you to first visit https://browse.feddit.de/, now search for the lemmy community where you want to post.

There may be more than 1 communities with same name, post where you feel like. Click on the community name to view description and “Rules” before posting there. There is also an option to copy the link to each community which I will reference later. You can also use https://lemmyverse.net/communities

Now let us start typing our lemmy post from FireFish

@community_name_here@lemmy_instance can be something like @technology@lemmy.world as from the screenshot before.

See how I did it on https://dvd.chat/notes/9kdpzyf8h9jobey5 and how it is synced to https://lemmy.ml/post/5929092

Now that we know how to post text to Lemmy, lets see how to post memes (images and videos) from Firefish to Lemmy. Direct file upload of the image will not work, you need to create a link to the image, use something like Pixeldrain, and use the link while attaching media to your FireFish note.

You can also join Guppe groups normally as you would when using Mastodon.

Case 1: I saw a hot thread on lemmy and want to comment reply → Click/Copy the link on the fediverse icon

Paste the link on your FireFish instance’s search option and that’s it now you can interact with it !

Case 2 : I want to post to Kbin ! → @feditips@mstdn.social has explained it well in a post :

“Several people asking in the thread about how to appear on the microblogging sections of Kbin magazines.

As far as I can tell, just include one of the magazine’s listed tags in your posts on Mastodon etc. For example to appear on the Apple magazine’s microblogging section include #apple or #iphone or one of the other tags as shown at on the right side of the screen at https://kbin.social/m/apple

Microblogging is a separate tab from Threads, you need a Kbin account to start a new kbin thread.”

Case 3 : I want to appreciate my friend’s tooth on Mastodon → Copy the web address of his/her original post → Paste it in your FireFish Search

Case 4 : I want to follow my favourite PeeTuber (idk if thats a word) → You can copy and paste addresses from Pixelfed, PeerTube, BookWyrm etc into Mastodon’s search box, their profiles will appear and you’ll be able to follow them from FireFish. Their posts will appear in your normal FireFish feed.

Method 2 : One kbin account

For this one, there is no hack. It is simple by default.

In Kbin (choose an instance here), there exists Magazines similar to communities on Lemmy, but you can either create a thread on that Magazine or a microblog. It is federated with many lemmy instances. That means you can post a Lemmy thread and comment/reply too. And thats just it ! Not as powerful as Method 1 but Simple.
